The cathedral church “Saints Cyril and Methodius” is one of the symbols of Burgas and one of the most beautiful churches in the country.

The church is located in the city centre, on the Saints Cyril and Methodius Square. It is named after the brother saints, creators of the Slavonic alphabet and missionaries of Christianity among Slavonic peoples. It was built in 1897 – 1907 according to the design of the Italian architect Ricardo Toscani. The church is a basilica with a nave and two aisles. The interior of the cathedral is divided in five couples of weight-bearing marble columns.

The main dome stands over a high twelve-walled windowed drum. The beautiful stained glass over the main entrance of the cathedral portrays Cyril and Methodius. The unique stained glass was painted by the famous Bulgarian artists prof. Gyudzhenkov and Kozhuharov, who also painted the stained glass in the “St. Alexander Nevski” church in Sofia.
